Love Those Ladybugs!

 Here's yet another ladybug necklace for your favorite little girl. 

I picked up a half dozen of these great ladybug beads at a bead and gem show about a year ago with no idea what I would do with them. 

I'd even forgotten I had them, until I started making ladybug jewelry for moms and little girls. Then I pulled them out and made a couple of different necklace designs and a bracelet.

The beads are about the size of a marble, and they are ceramic with lampwork glass ladybugs and leaves added to each bead. 

On this necklace the ladybug bead dangles from a strand of black onyx beads which is connected to short lengths of sterling silver chain. The extender chain is made of connecting hearts, and I finished the end with a small red-glass ladybug. It closes with a claw clasp for extra security.

Faith, Hope, and Charity Bracelet

 This bracelet was also a special order. 

I made it for a friend who fell in love with the Faith, Hope, and Charity necklace, and asked me to find another one of these vintage charms.

The special vintage charm is a group of three charms (these always come in threes) that symbolize faith (the cross), hope (the anchor), and charity (the heart). 

It is a classic charm that has been popular since the early 1900s. This particular charm was made in the 1960s and is sterling silver. I bought it from my favorite charm dealer in England. 

In this bracelet, I paired the charm with sterling silver wire and chain, and black onyx beads of various sizes and shapes. I made one strand of the necklace by hand, connecting onyx rondelles with sterling silver jump rings. The second strand is black onyx beads in just the right size. 

The clasp is adjustable, and is finished with a square onyx bead and a square sterling heart bead -- sweet, but not too sweet.

The necklace is made with one of my favorite beads: glossy black-onyx squares. The square beads are just under a half inch in size, and I connected them with round sterling silver jump rings and a length of sterling chain. 

The necklace closes with a little sterling hook and an onyx rondelle weights the end of the extender chain. Length: adjustable from about 15 to 18 inches.

 Love black onyx? These earrings are for you. 

These are a variation on my "chained" design, and have two beautiful onyx beads--one square and the other a rondelle shape--dangling from sterling silver chains. 

The french ear wires are also sterling silver. 

The earrings are about two inches long, not including the ear wire.

Onyx Triplets

I seem to be in love with this design, and I've made several different "triplet" earrings with various gemstones recently. 

But I keep coming back to the black onyx. I think it's the glossy surface of the beads. And the perfect proportions, especially the square beads, which I use quite often. 

In any case, this pair is really special. Three different shapes--square, oval and rondelle--on sterling silver wires of graduated lengths. The ear wires and other findings are all sterling silver.

Featuring: Black Onyx

I love black onyx, and use all shapes and sizes of black onyx beads in my jewelry. My favorites, though, are the square beads and the rondelles. 

(A rondelle is a round bead--not a ball, but a flattened round--that is drilled from the side.)

Onyx is a very dense black, and the beads I use have a great shine to them.

Here's a simple, classic pair of earrings that showcases the square onyx beads:

This 60-inch one-of-a-kind necklace has sections of black onyx beads in various shapes--square, round, rondelles, and oval--with sections of delicate sterling silver chain in between and two sterling puzzle pieces. It closes with a toggle clasp.

A New Classic in Black Onyx

I love square beads, and these black onyx beads are especially nice. Paired with a simple sterling silver hoop, they are destined to become a new classic.

Happy Bakelite Bracelet

I love bakelite, and for the past few weeks I've been searching for bakelite buttons to make bracelets. 

Bakelite is a vintage plastic invented in the early 1900s and widely used in the 1930s and 1940s for jewelry and buttons.

Bakelite buttons are often quite elaborate. Some are hand-carved. Some are made from two or more colors of bakelite, like the ones in this bracelet. 

These buttons are a combination of black and butterscotch bakelite, and are about one inch in diameter. They are in "never-used" condition. 

I echoed the design of the buttons with the square black onyx beads. The chain is sterling silver, and the bracelet closes with a toggle clasp. It adjusts to fit most wrists.

Animal Talk Rescue Auction: My Auction Item: SOLD

I made this bracelet to donate to the Animal Talk Auction, which is tomorrow night. 

Animal Talk rescues feral and abandoned cats and kittens, treats any medical conditions they may have, spays and neuters them, and finds them new homes. 

The one-of-a-kind bracelet has a unique vintage charm--it's a @1960s "mechanical" charm of a cat climbing up on a garbage can. When you open the can, a fish skeleton pops out! Perfect for a "feral cat charm bracelet."

The charm came from England. 

The bracelet is three strands of sterling silver and black onyx beads in various shapes and sizes. It closes with a handmade clasp, and adjusts to fit most wrists. 

Value: $150.
